Conscious Cleaning is a Chapel Hill-based, locally owned and operated cleaning service for people who care about their health, value the planet and have a passion for creating a safe and beautiful home.  Consciousness, by definition, is being awake, alert, deliberate and aware -- which is what it takes to maintain excellent health and nurture the planet.

Up until around the 1930's people cleaned their homes with simple ingredients that worked: baking soda, vinegar, lemon and salt.  World War II changed that when chemicals initially developed for warfare made their way into America's cleaners, cosmetics, pesticides, etc.  Conscious Cleaning gets back to that sustainable way of cleaning that worked so well for our grandparents and ancestors.

You spend your day being aware, being present for all of life's to-do's.  You are being conscious for others, for work, in traffic, for family and friends.  Let the Conscious Crew take care of your home knowing that we're caring for it in the way that fits your ideals. 

Who We Are

Conscious Cleaning was started by long-time resident, UNC grad and business owner, Hillary Fisher.  As owner of Modern Times, one of Chapel Hill's oldest dress shops, Hillary knows the value of customer service and building loyalty through quality. In 2010, she launched Conscious Cleaning Services for what she thought would be a side business. Within 6 months, her client roster was overflowing and she left the world of retail to dedicate herself to building the company.

We're a small company with two teams, not twenty. We're responsive and connected.

Our Philosophy

Many people can clean your home.  Finding people who use natural products, show up on time, are consistent and as thorough the twentieth time they clean your home as they were the first time, can be a challenge.  

We call ourselves the Conscious Crew for a reason.  We are present, alert, thorough, aware, consistent and dedicated.  

Being conscious isn't just about health and the environment, it's also about treating people well and supporting the local economy.  We're proud to provide an excellent place to work for our employees and proud to be a local business.
